Hit Ratio Driven Mobile Edge Caching Scheme for Video on Demand Services
More and more scholars focus on mobile edge computing (MEC) technology,
because the strong storage and computing capabilities of MEC servers can reduce
the long transmission delay, bandwidth waste, energy consumption, and privacy
leaks in the data transmission process. In this paper, we study the cache
placement problem to determine how to cache videos and which videos to be
cached in a mobile edge computing system. First, we derive the video request
probability by taking into account video popularity, user preference and the
characteristic of video representations. Second, based on the acquired request
probability, we formulate a cache placement problem with the objective to
maximize the cache hit ratio subject to the storage capacity constraints.
Finally, in order to solve the formulated problem, we transform it into a
grouping knapsack problem and develop a dynamic programming algorithm to obtain
the optimal caching strategy. Simulation results show that the proposed
algorithm can greatly improve the cache hit ratio

Room-Temperature Pressure Synthesis of Layered Black PhosphorusâGraphene Composite for Sodium-Ion Battery Anodes
Sodium-ion batteries offer an attractive option for grid-level energy storage due to the high natural abundance of sodium and low material cost of sodium compounds. Phosphorus (P) is a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries, with a theoretical capacity of 2596 mAh/g. The red phosphorus (RP) form has worse electronic conductivity and lower initial Coulombic efficiency than black phosphorus (BP), but high material cost and limited production capacity have slowed the development of BP anodes. To address these challenges, we have developed a simple and scalable method to synthesize layered BP/graphene composite (BP/rGO) by pressurization at room temperature. A carbon-black-free and binder-free BP/rGO anode prepared with this method achieved specific charge capacities of 1460.1, 1401.2, 1377.6, 1339.7, 1277.8, 1123.78, and 720.8 mAh/g in a rate capability test at charge and discharge current densities of 0.1, 0.5, 1, 5, 10, 20, and 40 A/g, respectively. In a cycling performance test, after 500 deep cycles, the capacity of BP/rGO anodes stabilized at 1250 and 640 mAh/g at 1 and 40 A/g, respectively, which marks a significant performance improvement for sodium-ion battery anodes
Formation of PbSe/CdSe Core/Shell Nanocrystals for Stable Near-Infrared High Photoluminescence Emission
PbSe/CdSe core/shell nanocrystals with quantum yield of 70% were obtained by the âsuccessive ion layer adsorption and reactionâ technology in solution. The thickness of the CdSe shell was exactly controlled. A series of spectral red shifts with the CdSe shell growth were observed, which was attributed to the combined effect of the surface polarization and the expansion of carriersâ wavefunctions. The stability of PbSe nanocrystals was tremendously improved with CdSe shells
Battle of Postdisaster Response and Restoration
[EN] The paper presents the results of the Battle of Postdisaster Response and Restoration (BPDRR) presented in a special session at the first International water distribution systems analysis & computing and control in the water industry (WDSA/CCWI) Joint Conference, held in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in July 2018. The BPDRR problem focused on how to respond and restore water service after the occurrence of five earthquake scenarios that cause structural damage in a water distribution system. Participants were required to propose a prioritization schedule to fix the damages of each scenario while following restrictions on visibility/nonvisibility of damages. Each team/approach was evaluated against six performance criteria: (1) time without supply for hospital/firefighting, (2) rapidity of recovery, (3) resilience loss, (4) average time of no user service, (5) number of users without service for eight consecutive hours, and (6) water loss. Three main types of approaches were identified from the submissions: (1) general-purpose metaheuristic algorithms, (2) greedy algorithms, and (3) ranking-based prioritizations. All three approaches showed potential to solve the challenge efficiently. The results of the participants showed that for this network, the impact of a large-diameter pipe failure on the network is more significant than several smaller pipes failures. The location of isolation valves and the size of hydraulic segments influenced the resilience of the system during emergencies. On average, the interruptions to water supply (hospitals and firefighting) varied considerably among solutions and emergency scenarios, highlighting the importance of private water storage for emergencies. The effects of damages and repair work were more noticeable during the peak demand periods (morning and noontime) than during the low-flow periods; and tank storage helped to preserve functionality of the network in the first few hours after a simulated event. Progress on Dynamic and Precise Engineering Surveying for Pavement and Track
The traditional precise engineering surveying is characterized by manual static discrete observation and geometric model solution, which cannot meet the requirements of large-scale infrastructure such as pavement and track, where need of wide-range,continuous,dynamic and high-precision surveying for these infrastructures' and systems' maintenance and management. The dynamic surveying based on multi-sensor integration technology and the cooperative computing based on multi-source spatial-temporal data are the important development directions for precise engineering surveying.First, the paper introduced the uniform and conversion of high-precision spatial-temporal datum, the multi-sensor synchronous control, the fusion of the observed data, the quality improvement of the surveying data and the feature extraction and recognition of the pavement cracks based on the three-dimensional image. Then, the progress of dynamic and precise surveying applications such as pavement roughness, rutting and deflection survey,as well as geometrical parameters of track, fastener status and rail damage detection are described
Digital-Twin-Based High-Precision Assembly of a Steel Bridge Tower
Steel structures that benefit from having lightweight, ductility, and seismic behaviors are capable of improving the overall performance of civil engineering in environmental protection, project quality, process management, and ease of construction, making the procedure more feasible for builders. The application of steel structure techniques has been widely used in bridges, tall buildings, and complex projects around the world. Increasing demand for planning and design has led to structural projects upgrading in structural complexity and geometrical irregularity. However, steel structure projects are still limited by the principal disadvantage of susceptibility to deformation. Therefore, the challenges of the assembly and manufacturing process for steel structures are important. In this paper, to achieve full-loop tracking and control of the assembly and manufacturing process, we propose an integrated approach to undertake the aforementioned challenges via digital twin technology, which combines three modules: (1) deformation detection, (2) pose estimation and optimization, and (3) deformation correction and pose control. This proposed methodology innovatively merges gravitational deformation analysis with geometrical error analysis. Furthermore, the validity of this methodâs implementation is demonstrated by the New Shougang Bridge project. The results show that the assembly precision satisfies the standard of less than H/4000, nearing H/6000. Moreover, the elevation difference is less than 20 mm, which satisfies the control precision of the geometric pose. The new method that we propose in this paper provides new ideas for structural deformation control and high-precision assembly, as it realizes dynamic deformation sensing, real-time deviation analysis and manufacturing, and efficient optimization of the assembly process
